Ralph Burnham presented Proactive Community Relations: Reducing Potential Liability at the Texas Aggregate and Concrete Association Annual Convention.
His presentation reviewed recent court cases and various citizen complaint situations and provides recommendations on how companies can improve relationships with communities and be a “good neighbor” while at the same time mitigating risk and liability. Proactive approaches were discussed in handling and reducing complaints from construction, mining and blasting operations, while reducing and protecting against potential liabilities. The presentation also provided recommendations for documenting and responding to complaints and community concerns, including specific examples from claims/cases, with examples of how clients have modified their operations to help alleviate concerns from nearby property owners.
