Reminger Obtains Unanimous Defense Verdict in Discrimination Lawsuit
Attorneys Melvin Davis and Michael Valentine obtained a defense verdict for a local high school.
The plaintiff was a former teacher at the high school who was disciplined after students in her class got into an altercation while she left her class unattended. The school district placed the teacher on paid administrative leave after it was discovered that she had left her classroom unattended for two straight days to make nachos for a fundraiser. After the incident, the teacher attempted to keep the event from the principal who had previously given a written directive that teachers were not permitted outside their classroom. Once the principal found out about the incident, Plaintiff was placed on paid leave pending an investigation. Although she was given a position where she was no longer in charge of supervising a classroom and never terminated, the teacher filed a lawsuit alleging that she was treated discriminatorily based on her age and Mexican heritage.
After trial, the jury returned a defense verdict on all claims in less than one hour.
