Joclene Vanik presented on two topics for the National Business Institute Seminar, Medicaid Planning Tools for Paralegals (With Key Documents, Checklists, and Resources). This is a National Seminar, with attendees representing several states across the Country.
Joclene’s first presentation, Medicaid Eligibility Update, Client Intake and File Organization, provided the 2024 Ohio updates on Medicaid’s various eligibility rules, and gave a peek into some upcoming rule changes regarding the Average Private Pay Rate, to be set into effect in September 2024. This presentation also provided practical insight and advice, from a start to finish perspective, of client representation, which focused on the initial client communications and the necessary information to gather and document, as well as how to organize a long-term care file to be effective and efficient.
The final presentation, Post-Placement Medicaid Eligibility, addressed Medicaid Estate Recovery and post-approval requirements to maintain eligibility going forward. This presentation emphasized the importance of representation of clients after benefits have been approved, to ensure continuation of benefits, as well as additional insight as to protecting the non-applicant spouse (if applicable), Medicaid Estate Recovery considerations, for single applicants and married applicants alike, and probate avoidance.
